DCW demands strong action, issues notice to Delhi Police
A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by an electrician inside the school premises in Mandir Marg area of New Delhi district, said police on Friday.
Police said the victim is a student of Class II in a government school located on Gole Market area. The incident was reported on Wednesday when the girl parents approached police station with the complaint of sexual assault after the mother detected blood in private parts of her daughter. The victim was admitted to a hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
“On Wednesday (August 8) when the girl was leaving for home after school got over, she was held by the accused and he took her to water pumping room where he sexually assaulted her. He set her free and threatened her not to tell any one or he will kill her,” said a police official.
When councillor and women police personnel talked to the victim, she said a man wearing ‘red T-shirt took her inside the pump room’. “We showed her the pictures of teaching and non-teaching staff members and she identified the school electrician Ram Ashrey in one of the pictures,” added the official.
Case under POSCO Act
A case was registered under relevant sections of IPC and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) at Mandir Marg police station. The electrician has been arrested and sent to jail. The case is under investigation. The girl is undergoing treatment and out of danger.
Meanwhile, Swati Maliwal, Chief of Delhi commission for women has demanded probe into the matter. She demanded strongest action should be taken against culprit who should be hanged within 6 months under the new law.
The DCW is issuing notice to Delhi Police and school authorities, to ascertain safety measures implemented in the school.
