Hare Street: A father and daughter driving through Esplanade had the windshield of their car shattered with a stone hurled by a young man from a scooter in what appeared to be an incident of road rage unlike any reported earlier in Calcutta.
Titir Banerjee, 40, had little idea what the accused was up to when she started video-recording his angry response to her father Deepankar Mondal ticking him off moments earlier for riding his scooter dangerously.
The man, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, apparently followed the Figo from Ganesh Chandra Avenue and stopped diagonally in front of the car at the KC Das crossing. The video clip recorded by Titir on her mobile phone shows him picking up a stone and hurling it at the windshield in one swift movement before nonchalantly speeding away.
Titir’s voice can be heard in the clip goading her 69-year-old father to follow him as he jumps a red signal to disappear into the heavy traffic. She then asks Deepankar to drive to the nearest police station. The elderly man’s voice quivers. He doesn’t know which way the police station is. His daughter isn’t able to help either. The clip ends with the car heading south towards The Oberoi Grand.
