LUCKNOW: Visitors who prefer to take accommodation near Charbagh station are having a tough time due to closure of hotels in the area following the administration crackdown for not following norms.
Such visitors are facing hardships as railway dormitories are booked and waiting halls are overcrowded.
People from low and middle income groups who come on short visits prefer hotels in Charbagh as they cannot afford luxurious ones in main city. Small traders who come to buy goods, students who come to appear in exams also prefer staying in Charbagh. At times, even train passengers stay in hotels when their train get rescheduled without prior information.
On Friday, TOI found all retiring rooms and dormitories of Charbagh railway station and Lucknow Junction full and waiting halls overcrowded. Most passengers said that their train had been rescheduled and nearby hotels were closed.”I came to board Himgiri Express, but the train is 16 hours late. Most nearby hotels are closed,” said Sukhwinder Singh, who was camping on the platform with his family.
Another passenger Sujeet Kumar said, “I frequently travel between Nanital and Lucknow so I take accommodation in nearby hotel. My train is 20 hours behind schedule. I have already spent 24 hours on the platform.”
Sasha Waari from Kerala had come to Lucknow for the first time. She had booked two rooms in a hotel but found it closed on arrival. “On June 15, I booked two rooms for two days. When we arrived, we found the hotel closed. They did not inform anything.”
“The hotel where we had booked a room online is closed. We went to meet the station master but he said that all rooms and dormitories are full due to peak summer season. I came to appear in an interview and could not even get proper rest. I don’t feel fresh,” said Gunjan Tiwari, who had come from Bareilly with her parents.
