Over 800 teachers trained in use of online textbooks

Over 800 teachers trained in use of online textbooksPANAJi: The days of wait for free textbooks for students or having to make do with the old ones due to shortage in supply may soon be over in Goa. Over the last few months, the state council for educational research and training (SCERT) has completed training of around 810 teachers teaching from Classes VIII to X in use of the E-pathshala app.The app, launched by the Union human resource development (HRD) ministry recently, provides content of all NCERT textbooks from class I onwards at a tap of your mobile phone. Using the app, teachers can also provide parents regular updates of their child’s progress.

“E-pathshala enables students to download textbook content on a smartphone for free. We have trained two teachers from every government and aided school in Goa in use of the app. One teacher teaching languages and one teacher of either mathematics or science has been trained from Classes VIII to X from every school,” said SCERT director Nagraj Honnekeri. The resources on E-pathshala are available in the languages of English, Hindi and UrduTeachers can download teaching manuals and curricular resources which are listed class and subject wise. If the app is used to the optimum, students can get to access the e-books, audio/video tutorials and can keep track of the books they accessed, hours spent on a certain subject/ book and even bookmark the chapters studied. Parents too can access the e-resources.
“We have also introduced teachers to the national repository of open educational resources (NROER). In this, experts have gone through all the educational content available free online and the verified content has been brought under one website, so that teachers know that this is authentic information and can be used to enhance their teaching. Now, it is up to the teachers to utilise these online resources,” said Honnekeri..
