Six more mobile phones were recovered from inmates of the Gurdaspur central jail following a search operation ordered by Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Tuesday night. With today’s recovery, a total of 15 mobiles have been found in the past seven days.“The six handsets recovered on Wednesday were not smuggled into prison after the May 2 recovery of nine sets. During the May 2 operation, it is possible that the cops could not locate these phones which in any case were found on Wednesday. The laxity shown by the previous SAD-BJP combine pertaining to checking of prisons will not be tolerated at any cost,” said the minister.SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar said an FIR against six persons was registered on a complaint filed by the jail superintendent. “Investigations are in progress as to how the mobiles found their way into the jail,” said the SSP.Today’s search was conducted under the supervision of the new jail superintendent Karanjit Singh. Sources reveal three inmates were in possession of mobiles while three others threw them out of their barracks when they spotted the jail staff.
