Call for arrest of those involved in ATM fraud case
As many as 66 cadre belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were arrested when they attempted to picket the Police Headquarters on Dumas Street demanding the arrest of culprits involved in the ATM fraud case.
The workers led by BJP local unit president V. Saminathan took out a procession from the UCO Bank to picket the Police Headquarters.
However, they were blocked en route by the police near the Bharathi Park and arrested.
Steep rise in crimes
Mr. Swaminathan said that there was a steep rise in cases of heinous crimes, including murders due to rivalry between gangs.
He accused the Congress government of failure to maintain law and order and demanded the government to recommend a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the ATM fraud. The police had been going slow in the case as several politicians were involved in the fraud, he alleged.
