DVAC team visits university to seek more documents
With Bharathiar University being headless following the suspension of its arrested Vice-Chancellor A. Ganapathi, the institution’s special syndicate meeting would be held in Coimbatore on Thursday morning to discuss the development.
A decision on setting up a three-member convenor’s committee to administer the affairs of the university to which arts and science colleges in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris and Erode are affiliated, is likely to be taken at the meeting.
Sources said Sunil Paliwal, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, would chair the special syndicate meeting.
The convenor’s committee would manage the day-to-day affairs of the university till such time the government and the Governor-Chancellor decide on the further course of action.
Mr. Ganapathi, who was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Saturday on graft charges, was placed under suspension by the Governor on Tuesday evening. He is presently in judicial custody.
It is learnt that the meeting could also deliberate action against Prof. Dharmaraj, the co-accused in the case.
Meanwhile, a DVAC team visited the university on Wednesday seeking the personal details of Mr. Ganapathi and Mr. Dharmaraj and certain documents that could be relevant for further investigation in the case.
A senior DVAC officer said the agency did not carry out a raid but sought some documents, both digital and hard copies, which were needed for further probe in the case.
