Pondicherry University V-C says higher education scenario promising in India
The Pondicherry University on Tuesday launched the HRDC (Human Resource Development Centre) Refresher Course in environmental science and geo-sciences.
Inaugurating the interdisciplinary refresher course, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Gurmeet Singh emphasised the importance of the courses offered by the UGC-HRDC.
“Courses such as these offer an opportunity for teachers from all across India to meet and interact. The resource persons provide latest insight into emerging areas of research and teaching,” Prof. Singh said.
The V-C noted that the higher education scenario in India was promising. Highlighting the important strides taken by the country in the direction of power generation, he pointed out that Arunachal Pradesh alone had the potential to generate 60,000 mega watts of electricity, sufficient for the entire country.
In Andaman Island, courses in Port Management had the potential to generate employment and empowering youth.
In the case of Gujarat which has a long coastline, there is growing awareness of harnessing the natural geographical feature for economic development.
He appreciated the contribution of HRDC towards enriching the academic life of the teaching community by organising such courses. As many as 55 participants from all over India participated in the refresher course.
